About a month ago, apparently the AC unit on the side of the house started making a disturbing noise. Since the weather was still relatively cool, Dree just turned the AC off. This past, Holiday weekend, however, the temperature spiked up into the nineties. Everything would have been fine if the AC repair guy had shown up as scheduled on Friday.

I got a call from Dree while she was over at her mother’s Sunday night suggesting I may want to make a trip out to get some more fans. We had a 12″ oscillating fan of questionable vintage which we already had been running to keep things livable. I got a couple of nice, gleaming new fans and for a bit they made a difference, especially Sunday night, when the evening was quite a bit cooler.

The AC repair guys showed up later in the day, today, and it turns out the unit had blown a capacitor. Not sure what a capacitor does in an AC unit, so I can’t tell if he was winding us up. Anyway, today was the hottest day, yet, even though the weather prediction over the weekend for the coming week suggested it actually would cool off. So while the house is cooling now, tempers frayed pretty badly in the meantime. I imagine overnight it will get right back down to comfy.
